Painless Installation
Profile Manager Premium version 3.0 introduces a new and innovative installation tool that makes it a breeze to have your membership site up and running in 15 minutes. On the older versions, you had to upload files using an FTP application and set permissions for files and folders. A lot of times, our users had problems with uploading files in ASCII mode or setting incorrect permissions. As our support promise, we always responded very quickly and fixed the installation for them. However, we needed to find a better solution so that our users can start using their membership site quickly and not spend time worrying about installation. Our new windows based program provides that: a stress free and quick installation.
After completing the purchase of Profile Manager premium, you will get to the page where you can download the installation file. It is an executable file with .exe extension. Download the file into your computer and run it.
First page of the installation wizard is called "Enter your site information�". To be able to install PM Premium, you need to have a web site with FTP access. The FTP information is something provided by your hosting company. You need a host name, login name and password. If your hosting provider has not provided a separate host name, it should simply be your domain name, such as www.mydomain.com.
When you click on Next button, Installer will connect to your site and list all folders in your site. You should browse and choose a directory in your site where your membership section will work. Once you complete your selection and click on "Next�", Installer will create a folder in your site and first install a very small CGI script called test.cgi. This script basically checks the folder to see if PM Premium would work there. It is possible that your site may not allow CGI scripts in a public directory; in that case, Installer will ask you to choose another location.
Installer then uploads all Profile Manager Premium files in your site and opens a new browser window so that you can continue with the remaining part of the installation. Next, you will be asked to accept License agreement. You should read it and if you do not agree with it, stop the installation at that point. You can contact us, let us know that you do not agree with the license and get a refund. On the next step, you will be asked to choose a password for your Admin account. Please choose a difficult to guess password. The next step is just a confirmation page. It looks at the files and folders and checks if anything is missing. If there is a missing item, you will be prompted to perform an action, otherwise you will click on the Next button to continue with the installation.
The next section is called "Installation: Server Details". The web installer should choose default values for each question. Please check them and make changes if necessary. "Static Profiles" features are useful for providing easy to remember profile URLs such as http://mydomain.com/profiles/bart. Base URL is the address of this directory, and Base Path is the internal directory path on your server. It also applies to "images" and "member-only" directories. Image directory will be used to keep all PM Premium and user uploaded images. Member-only directory is a password-protected directory you can use to protect your proprietary information or part of your site.
On the next step, you will be asked to enter a location in your site to create some sample files. It will create "index.html" for all the links and forms, "login.html" for your sample login form, "search.html" for sample search forms, and "register.html" for a registration form with your default profile fields.
Finally, the web-based installer will create your configuration for the first time and you are done with the installation. What's Next? You should first try out all of the features of the user and admin areas. Then start customizing your database fields and templates. We hope it was a pleasant experience for you.
